Leicester - John Joseph Duda, 79, of 9 Trails End, died Saturday November 2, 2002. A native of Union County, NJ, he was a resident of Buncombe County for the past 32 years. He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Academy Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was a WW II Army Veteran serving in Gen. Pattons 3rd Army when they invaded Normandy Beach, and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a son of the late Louis and Anna Mott Duda. Surviving are his wife, Rosemarie Duda of the home; sons, J. Gary Duda of Canton and Paul D. Duda and wife, Lise of Mid Coast, ME; grandchildren, Tony Duda, Caroline Duda and Peter Duda; sister, Jean Stoecker and husband, Hank of Arlington, WA; brothers, Louis Duda and wife, Florence of Rahway, NJ, William Duda of Washington and Richard Duda of Clark, NJ; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday November 10, 2002 at the Mt. Pisagh Academy Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastors Buz Menhardt and Don Dronen officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team at 2 p.m. Friday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Mr. Duda loved children and his sense of humor endeared him to many people.
