John Henry Calloway

September 9, 1920 — April 20, 2003

Asheville - John Henry Calloway , 82, of 380 Brevard Road died Sunday, April 20, 2003 at Aston Park Health Care Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. While in the service he was in the Aleutian Islands Luzon. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Calloway was the son of the late Henry Joseph and Celia Etta Bishop Calloway and was the husband of the late Louise Owenby Calloway. he was also preceded in death by his 2 daughters, 5 brothers and 6 sisters. Surviving are his brother, Noel Calloway of Asheville, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Woodby officiating. Burial will be in Clarks Chapel Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
