Swannanoa John Elbert Hefner, 30, went to be with the Lord Monday, July 4, 2011. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. John was the Founder of Appalachian Performance Automotive, was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, attended A.C. Reynolds High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Iraqi War. John was the son of Sally C. Hefner and the late Iverson Abraham Hefner who died February 13, 2009. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Heather Langford Hefner of the home; sister, Sara Hefner Moss and companion Todd Kirmss of Flat Rock; brothers, Joe Hefner of Asheville and Pat Hefner and wife Marsha of Leicester; nephews, Dakota Moss, Tristan Hefner and Joey Hefner; father and mother-in-law, Caroll and Frances Langford and brother-in-law, Brandon Langford all of Weaverville; grandmother-in-law, Ikey Langford of Asheville. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Norval Hensley, Van Lawing and Don Harrison officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: CarePartners Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, N.C. 28813 in memory of his father, Iverson Hefner. John was a kind, passionate young man who loved life and his generosity for others was exemplary. Like his father, he was one who never met a stranger.
