John Ernest Mcclure

June 11, 1925 — September 27, 2002

Fairview - John Ernest McClure, 77 died Friday September 27, 2002 at his home after a period of declining health. A native and resident of Buncombe county for most of his life, he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He jumped into Normandy on D-Day with the 101st Airborne Rangers and received the Silver Star and 2 Purple Hearts. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the D.A.V.. He was a son of the late George Dewey and Constance Sue Whitted McClure and the husband of the late Evelyn Marie Towe McClure who died March 1, 2001. Surviving are his sons, Michael Dale McClure of Denver, Co. and Glenn Jackson McClure of Colorado Springs, Co.; stepdaughters, Rose Mary Peart of Asheville and Sharon Louise Geralds of Fairview; stepsons, Joseph Edward Hill of Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y., Rodney Carroll Hill of Salt Lake City, Utah, Richard Lynn Hill of Raleigh and Michael Leslie Hill of Barnardsville; sisters, Ruby Lenoir Mulkey of Salisbury and Edith Louise Green of Brevard; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Bishop Edward Peart officiating. Burial will be in Cane Creek Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Volunteer Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M.
