Asheville - John Clayton Jay Hensley, 75, of 30 Clairmont Avenue died Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at Memorial Mission Hospital following a period of declining health. A native of Madison County, he had resided in Buncombe County for most of his life and was the son of the late James Hunley Hensley and Nancy Elvira Riddle Hensley Davis. Mr. Hensley retired in 1997 as the Associate Editor for the Asheville-Citizen Times withwhom he had been employed since 1952. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy, Sea-Bees. Surviving are his former wife, June Murphy Hensley of Asheville; son, Dick Hensley of Raleigh; daughter, Teresa Hensley Wall of Asheville; grandsons, Jeremy Jay Oland and Ryan Lee Wyatt; sisters, Pansy Watts of Asheville and Mary Sawyer of Cincinatti, Ohio; brother, Jack Hensley of Greer, S.C. and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Carol S. Ploch and Dr. Robert M. Blackburn officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following memorial services at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of June Hensley, 34 Vandalia Avenue, West Asheville.
