Alexander Joel Hurdas Tiller, 84, of 484 Alexander Road went to be with his Lord Sunday, February 12, 2006 at Beverly Health Care. A native of Hartwell, GA. Mr. Tiller has resided in Buncombe County most of life and attended Lee H. Edwards High School. He was a WW II U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, a recipient of the WW II Victory Medal and a member and Deacon of Erwin Hills Baptist Church. He was employed with Sealtest Dairy for 36 years and at the time of his retirement was Production Supervisor and from 1968 to 1993 he was owner and operator of J.H. Tiller Trucking Company. He was a son of the late John Spurgeon Tiller and Sallie Russ Scott Tiller and the husband of Loretta Myers Tiller who passed away April 28, 2002. Surviving are his daughter, Betty Joel Tiller Long and husband, Bobby of Odenton, MD; sister, Frances Haney of Asheville; brother, Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller and wife, Margaret of Candler; grandchildren, Rusty Jarrett and wife, Tami of Wilmington, Robin Shelton and husband, David of Leicester, Brent Jarrett of Wilmington and Jeremy Long of Odenton, MD; great grandchildren, Kyle, Austin and Nicholas Jarrett of Wilmington, Jack and Josh Watson, David, Crystal, Justin and Jocelyn Shelton all of Leicester. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller, Rev. Marty Conner and Rev. Dr. David Tiller officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be Dan OKelly, Tim Sawyer, Terry Sitton, John Edwards, Gene Stines and Mark Tiller. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Tiller, Danny Randall, Albert Lee Buddy North, Michael Penland, David Shelton, Jr. and Bernard Herrin. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorial Gifts, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231.
