Asheville – Joel Dennis Cook, 66, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at his home while surrounded by family.
Joel was a native of Jonesboro, GA, having graduated from Jonesboro High School in the class of 1974. He served his country in the U.S. Army, and worked in sales for Georgia Power, Conklin, Bound, Orkin, and the Panola Mountain Golf Course.
Joel was a kind and generous Christian who loved his family deeply. He was passionate about our country and politics. He also enjoyed playing golf, gardening, music, and cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents, James Fillmore Cook and Velma Gertrude Hammock Cook; wife, Jamie Dawn Taylor Cook who passed on April 1, 2020; daughter, Leah Cook who passed in 2018; and brothers: Phillip Cook and James Michael Cook and his wife Joyce.
Surviving are his son, Jarrod Cook and fiancée Alexandra Lenox; grandson, Cypress Cameron Cook; companion, Teresa Dye; brother, Larry Cook and wife Rita; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A service to celebrate Joel’s life will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 3, 2023, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor William Moore officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends on Friday immediately following the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Charles George V.A. Medical Center, and Carepartners Hospice for their loving care and support given to Joel and his family.
