Joe Wright

Asheville – Joseph Riley Wright, 83, passed away at home on Saturday, October 23, 2021. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Joe was the son of the late Emmett F. Wright and Merle Anders Wright. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Emmett, Jr., Clarence, Daniel, and David Wright. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara “Bobbie” Foster Wright; son Wayne Wright and his wife, Sarah, of Greenville, SC: daughter Kimberly Cheadle and husband, Matt, of Asheville; grandchildren Riley Wright, Raegan Cheadle, and Joey Wright; and sisters, Alice Plemmons and Joyce Barnes. Joe spent more than 30 years working in the beverage industry, retiring from Milkco Dairy in 2000 following 16 years there. He was a proud grandfather and since retirement, enjoyed time with family and playing with his many animals. “Daddy Joe” to many in his neighborhood, he loved chatting with anyone who passed by. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, October 27 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Roger Boone officiating. A private burial will be held at Green Hills Cemetery, Asheville at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, October 26 at the funeral home.
