Joe W. Mccarson, Sr.

Candler Joe William McCarson, Sr., 87, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at his home. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a self employed furniture maker and formerly attended Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Mr. McCarson was a son of the late James Atley McCarson and Florence Pressley McCarson and husband of Aelene Dover McCarson who died in November 1991. Surviving are his children, Carolene Battle (Joel) of Williamston, Joe W. McCarson, Jr. (Linda) and Rev. Ricky McCarson (Janice) all of Candler and Mark McCarson (Lisa) of Alexander; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Rogers (Bill) of Cape Hatteras; brother, David F. McCarson (Phyllis) of Candler and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, February 27, 2017 at Sand Hill Baptist Church, 190 Moody Ave in Candler, with Rev. Ricky McCarson, Rev. Derrick McCarson and Rev. Justin McCarson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM Monday at the church.
