Joe W. Head

Asheville - Joe W. Head, 74, of 399 Rice Rd. died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, TX. Born in Alvaton, GA, he retired from the US Army as a SFC (T) serving in WW II and Korea. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Pat McIntosh Head of the home; daughter, Angie Desantis and husband Hector of El Paso; grandchildren, Leo Smith and wife Nancy and Christine Wise and husband James; great grandchildren, Kyle, Angelica, and Zane. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rusty Rector officiating. Pallbearers will be Leo Smith, James Wise, Tim Haney, Robert Hollifield, Larry Wade, and Ken Weatherman. Jack McIntosh will be a honorary pallbearer. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mtn. with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council/Volunteer Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
