Joe "Old Joe" Cantley Jr.

West Asheville - Ira Joe Old Joe Cantley, Jr. of 11 Inglewood Ave. died Wednesday July 25, 2001 at St. Josephs Hospital. A native of Seth, West Virginia. He had resided in Buncombe County since the 1950s. He retired in 1998 from McKinney Welding Supplies Inc. after 14 years of service as a repairman and was formerly employed with Pioneer Welding Supplies. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during WW II. He was the husband of Eva Mae Keeney Cantley who died December 16, 1997. Surving are his sister, Thelma Mason of Seth, West Virginia and half-brother, Lester Cantley of Seth. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday at the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeffrey Hober officiating. The family will receive friends following the funeral services at the funeral home. Burial will be held Monday at the W.N.C. State Veterans Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clyde, Steve, Randy and Eric McKinney, Colonel Shuford, Gary Ballew, Jerry Yoder, Tony Hensley, Edward Jenkins, Bob Blackburn, Nathan Ownbey and Don Taylor.
