Asheville Joan Baker Silvers, 73, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Yancey County, Mrs. Silvers had resided in Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a graduate of Lee Edwards High School, and retired as a CNA with CarePartners. Mrs. Silvers was the daughter of Margaret Cooper Baker, and the late Dewey Lee Baker. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Messer; son, Kenneth Messer; and a sister, Linda McNeil. Surviving are her husband, Ronald E. Ron Silvers; children: Pamela M. Sprinkle (George, Sr.) and Jeremy Silvers; grandchildren: Nathan Troutman and Jessica Honeycutt (Nathan); great-grandchildren: Haley and Rylee Honeycutt; brother, Gerald Baker (Candace); and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at The Chapel of Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Sexton, Jr. and Rev. Allen Rash officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family to assist with final expenses.
