James Franklin “Jim” Andres, 90, of Spivey Mountain Road, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at his residence.
He was a native of Hudson, Illinois and longtime resident of Buncombe County.
He was a veteran of the US Army and US Navy and had served in the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Andres had a degree in Law Enforcement, served with the Drug Enforcement Administration in Undercover Administration and while in Asheville worked with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department. He wrote and published a book called “Not In Vain” January 22, 2007 and had several articles in Crime Magazines written about his work.
He was the son of the late Harry A. Andres and Crystal Carol Pointer and was also preceded in death by his son, Richard Andres and stepchildren, Wesley, Richard and Molly Smith.
Surviving are his wife of over 50 years, Carol Ann Byrne Andres, children, Sue Bednarz, Mike Andres, John Andres and Robert Andres; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 5:30 PM Saturday, July 8, 2023, at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 72 Culvern St, Asheville, with Father Patrick Cahill officiating. The family will have a short social following services at the church.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 10, 2023, at Lewis Memorial Park, 415 Beaverdam Rd, Asheville.
