Jewell "Judy" Kent

Asheville - Jewell “Judy” Surrett Kent, 82, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Aston Park Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family. A native of Buncombe County, Mrs. Kent had resided in Torrington, CT for 10 years, before returning to Buncombe County in 1966. She worked as a private duty nurse, and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Sandy Mush. Mrs. Kent was the daughter of the late D.L. and Mamie Pearl McReath Surrett, and the wife of the late Richard Kent. She was also was preceded in death by two daughters: Janice Jewel Hardway and Cynthia Marie Marler; son, Brian Carleton Neal; great-granddaughter, Mahala Anne Haney; great-grandson, Elijah (Eli); four sisters and four brothers. Surviving are her children: Anita Ellis (Chris Ramsey), Stephen Anthony Neal (Wanda), and Michael David Neal (Debbie); 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Reems officiating. Burial will follow in Big Sandy United Methodist Church Cemetery.
