Jessie Mae Moore

Malvern Hills-West Asheville Jessie Mae Burris Moore, 91, of 24 Arthur Road passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Wake Med North Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired in the late 70s following 28 years of service with the National Air Weather Service as Key Punch Operator. She was a lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church where a member of the Naomi Sunday School Class, was a member of the Beaucatcher Quilt-Bee and Order of Eastern Star Chapter #119, was a charter member of the Circle 8s Square Dancing Club and volunteered with Mission Hospitals-St. Joseph Campus. Jessie Mae liked to picnic on the Parkway at Mount Pisgah and loved to attend her Burris Family reunions at Cruso, NC. Avid flower gardener and talented crafter of carved animals, pine cone art and toll painting. But most of all, she loved her friends and family and people loved her back. Mrs. Moore was a daughter of the late Asbury Cordell Burris, Sr. and Cora Belle Cogburn Burris and the wife of Wiley McDonald Moore, Jr. who died March 30, 1988. Surviving are her sons, James Moore & wife Margaret of Wake Forest and Marty Moore & wife Wanda of Brunswick, GA; grandchildren, Jason Moore & wife Tamara and Lauren Parrish & husband Bryan all of Raleigh, Aaron Moore and Levi Moore both of Brunswick, GA; great grandchildren, Ella and Katie; sister, Hazel Coleman of Winston-Salem; half sisters, Mary Sue McGrath and Barbara Jean Searcy; half brother, A.C. Burris, Jr.; several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:30 P.M. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Don Welborn and Rev. Dr. Tom Sawyer officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home and from 1:45 to 2:30 P.M. Thursday at the church.
