Jesse S. Calloway, Jr.

Asheville Jesse Sylvester Calloway, Jr., 95, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the NC State Veterans Home in Black Mountain. A native of Buncombe County and full time resident since 1984 when he retired following 21 years of service with Robbins Air Force Base in Warner Robbins, GA. During his career, he served as Project Engineer on Aircraft ordinances of which he was responsible for machine guns, rocket launchers and all weaponries on aircrafts. He was a WWII veteran, having served in the US Army-Air Corp, a graduate of Brevard College and was a 1950 graduate of NC State, receiving his BA Degree in Chemical Engineering. Also, prior to serving at Warner Robbins Air Force Base, he had served at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, UT for three years in explosives. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Jesse Sylvester Calloway, Sr. and Ethel Evelyn Jones Calloway. He was also preceded in death by his son, Steve Aaron Calloway. Surviving are his two daughters. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Friday, November 25, 2016 at Green Hills Cemetery with Sam Hocking officiating.
