Jesse Richard Franklin

March 9, 1949 — July 3, 2021

Asheville - Jesse Richard Franklin, 72, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, Saturday, July 3, 2021, at his residence. He was born in Florence, SC to the late Orville Gary and Anna Rochester Franklin and was also preceded in death by three brothers, who were also proud veterans, Gary, William (Midge) and Phillip Franklin. Mr. Franklin is survived by his loving wife, Helen of 49 years; daughters, Sheila McAbee (Mitch), Lisa Hall (David) and Angela Franklin (Ajani) and 6 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John Franklin (Shirley) and his sister, Jane Gibson (Bob) and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Franklin attended Lee H. Edwards High School and joined the US Maries in 1967, serving proudly until 1970. While in Vietnam he was with the Communications unit with the 3rd Marine Division, stationed at Da Nang. He retired from the Charles George VA Medical Center Radiology Department in Asheville and has spent his retirement camping, fishing and enjoying his children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Anders Rice Funeral Home from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Services will be held 2 pm Thursday, July 8, 2021 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain with Rev. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the US Marine Corps Honor Guard. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at the VA Hospital, Care Partners Hospice and All Ways Caring Home Care.
