Jesse Odell "Bubbles" Hamlin

Asheville - Jesse Odell Bubbles Hamlin, 68, of 599 North Louisiana Ave., Lot # 94 died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was the son of the late Jacob Floyd and Hattie Lillie West Hamlin. Mr. Hamlin was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Emma Baptist Church. He retired in 1995 from the Asheville Transit Systems where he was an Operator for 28 years. Following his retirement he served with the Asheville Citizen-Times as a Van Driver for the past 4 years. Surviving are his wife Darlene Rice Hamlin of the home; son, David Ray Hamlin of Fletcher; grandson, Devon Ray Hamlin of Fletcher; sister, Mary Hamlin Thomas and husband, Charles (Norman) of Asheville; father and mother in law, Paul & Irene Rice of Leicester; brothers in law, James W. Rice and wife, Lydia of Asheville and David Rice and wife, Linda of Asheville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Emma Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Sorrells officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
