ASHEVILLE - JERRY LEE METZ, 52 OF 212 RIVERVIEW CHURCH ROAD DIED FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2000 AT HIS RESIDENCE FOLLOWING A LONG ILLNESS. MR. METZ WAS A NATIVE AND RESIDENT OF BUNCOMBE COUNTY FOR MOST OF HIS LIFE. HE WAS FORMERLY EMPLOYED BY SOUTHEASTERN CONTAINER, WAS A VETERAN OF THE US MARINE CORP, SERVING DURING VIETNAM, AND WAS OF THE BAPTIST FAITH. HE WAS THE SON OF SARAH BERNICE LANGFORD BUCKNER OF ASHEVILLE AND THE LATE LEVI METZ. IN ADDITION TO HIS FATHER, HE WAS ALSO PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS TWIN DAUGHTERS, SANDY AND MANDY METZ, BROTHER, LARRY METZ , FORMERLY OF ASHEVILLE, AND HIS STEP FATHER, CARLOS BUCKNER, FORMERLY OF ASHEVILLE. SURVIVING IN ADDITION TO HIS MOTHER ARE HIS WIFE, BRENDA TWEED METZ OF THE HOME; DAUGHTER, PAULA MARIE METZ OF ASHEVILLE; STEP SONS, ROBERT BLACKWELL, JR. AND CHRIS BLACKWELL, BOTH OF ASHEVILLE; STEP DAUGHTER, ANNETTE GREGORY OF ASHEVILLE; STEP MOTHER, NETTIE METZ AND HALF SISTER, JANE METZ BOTH OF BARNARDSVILLE; GRANDCHILDREN, KATLYN MARIE METZ, TOBY BLACKWELL, NICOLE AND JUSTIN GREGORY; NEPHEW, JUNIOR ROTH OF PEARLAND, TEXAS. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 11:00 AM TUESDAY IN THE ANDERS-RICE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL WITH THE REVS CHARLES ROGERS AND GERALD METCALF OFFICIATING. MUSIC TO BE PROVIDED BY STEPHANIE TWEED, CARSON MOSELEY AND BOBBY SPIVEY. BURIAL WILL BE IN ASHELAWN GARDENS OF MEMORY WITH MILITARY GRAVESIDE RITES CONDUCTED BY THE ASHEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL JR. ROTC. ACTIVE PALLBEARERS WILL BE ALAN TWEED, CHARLES BRADY, JOHNNY STAFFON, HARRY BLACKWELL, HARVEY AND DONALD LANGFORD AND HONORARY PALLBEARERS, CARROLL TWEED AND FRANK LANGFORD. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS 7 TO 9 P.M. MONDAY AT THE FUNERAL HOME. MEMORIALS MAY BE MADE TO MOUNTAIN AREA HOSPICE, P.O. BOX 16, ASHEVILLE, N.C. 28802 OR AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION, 50 SOUTH FRENCH BROAD AVENUE, ASHEVILLE, N.C. 28801.
