Jean Ball Rice

Jean Ball Rice, 91, went to be with her Lord, her husband, and her family on Monday, September 19, 2022.

Jean was born in Madison County to Henry and Rhoda Ball on January 11, 1931. She had lived in Buncombe County since 1950.

She was a graduate of Marshall High School and Cecil’s Business College.

Jean was a member of Victory Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years; sang in the choir; and worked in the nursery and Bible School. She was a home-maker and bookkeeper for her husband’s trucking company.

She was the wife of James C. Rice, Jr. who died in 1994. Also preceding her in death are her sisters: Daisy Conner, Mattie Ball, Jeanette Cooper, and Eloise Riddle; brothers: Robert Roberts, Walter Ball, Coleman Ball, Richard Ball, and Dallas Ball.

Jean is survived by her daughters: Terry Ammons and husband Sam, Brenda McElrath and husband Jeff, and Kathy Rice; son, James “Tony” Rice and wife Bridgette; grandchildren: Christie Rice Redmond and husband Ryan, Corey Rice and wife Holly, Justin McElrath and wife Desiree, Gina McElrath Bond and husband Jeremy, and Matthew Ammons; great-granddaughters: Emmry Kate Redmond, Tilley Reese McElrath, and Piper Jade Bond; great-grandsons: Carter James Redmond, and Beaudi Walker McElrath.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 23, 2022, at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM till 1:00 PM on Friday at the church.
