Candler – James Dock “J.D.” Grooms, 85, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired in1997 from Ingles following over 30 years of service, was a member of Trinity Baptist Church for 57 years and served in the NC National Guard. Mr. Grooms was the son of the late Chief Grooms and Nola Shelton Grooms. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Lee Warren Grooms who died September 16, 2014, and daughter, Sheila Ann Grooms. Surviving are his wife of six years, Jackie Murray Lance of the home; children, Eddie Grooms of Candler, Debbie Browning of Weaverville, Jamey Grooms and wife, Elizabeth of Elkton, MD and Stephanie Davis and husband, Mark of Candler; grandchildren, Nathan Browning and wife, Beth, Ashley Peluyera and husband, Chris, Rachel Cline and husband, Matt, Aaron Browning and wife, Alyssa, Sarah Grooms, Josiah Grooms, Joshua Davis and wife, Makaela, Bethany Rogers and husband, Drew and Carlen Davis; great-grandchildren, Jade, Emma, Ben, Caleigh, Aneslynn, Juliette, Caydson, Maggie and Adleigh; sister, Norma Lee Medford and husband, Lowell of Canton, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 4, 2022 at Snow Hill UMC Cemetery, with Pastor Allen Rash and Rev. Karl Zielke officiating. Pallbearers will be Joshua Davis, Carlen Davis, Nathan Browning, Aaron Browning, Josiah Grooms and Drew Rogers, and honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Lance, Nathan Lance, Joel McCoy, Matt Cline and Chris Peluyera.
