ASHEVILLE - JAY CLYDE RHODES, 82, OF 443 WEAVERVILLE HWY, DIED WEDNESDAY MAY 30, 2001 AT HIS RESIDENCE AFTER A PERIOD OF DECLINING HEALTH. A LIFE LONG RESIDENT OF BUNCOMBE COUNTY. HE RETIRED OCTOBER 1977 FROM WRIGHT UPHOLSTERY COMPANY AND WAS FORMERLY EMPLOYED WITH SOUTHERN RAILWAY. MR. RHODES WAS A MEMBER OF PINE BURR PARK BAPTIST CHURCH AND WAS A WW II ARMY VETERAN. HE WAS THE SON OF THE LATE WILLIAM CLYDE AND ELSIE M. STEWART RHODES. SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE, ELLA MAE WILSON RHODES OF THE HOME WHOM HE MARRIED 61 YEARS AGO ON SEPTEMBER 11, 1939; DAUGHTER, LEE ANN WILSON AND HUSBAND, RICHARD OF WEAVERVILLE; SISTER, BEATRICE JETTERS OF TRENTON, NJ; GRANDSON, DANIEL WILSON AND WIFE, CONNIE STATIONED AT BEALE AIR FORCE BASE IN CALIFORNIA; GRANDDAUGHTERS, MELINDA ANN NOAH AND HUSBAND, ALBERT, DARINDA WILSON AND MARELLA WILSON ALL OF WEAVERVILLE AND GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, AARON AND ANDREW DILLINGHAM, MEAGAN, KAITLYN AND DANIELLE WILSON. FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD 11:00 A.M. SATURDAY IN THE CHAPEL OF ANDERS-RICE RICE FUNERAL HOME WITH THE REVS WESLEY PIKE, GARY HAYNES AND JIM MOORE OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN ASHELAWN GARDENS OF MEMORY WITH MILITARY GRAVESIDE RITES CONDUCTED BY THE BUNCOMBE COUNTY VETERANS MEMORIAL TEAM. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS 7 TO 8:30 P.M. FRIDAY AT THE FUNERAL HOME AND AT OTHER TIMES WILL BE AT THE RESIDENCE.
