Fairview James Tommy Harris, 63, of 367 Bob Barnwell Road, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 9, 2006 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital System. A native of Yancey County, He had resided most of his life in Buncombe County. He was self-employed as a painting contractor and was of the Baptist faith. He was the son of the late Luther and Omie Calloway Harris. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Harris, and a sister, Margie Harris Penley. Surviving are his wife, Florence Keever Harris, of the home; two daughters: Sheila Burrell of Weaverville and Darlene Cook of Etowah; five grandchildren: Sally Ann Burrell, Salina Burrell, Jacquelyn Marie Pegg, Ashley Cook, and Lee Ann Cook; a sister, Betty Harris Sharp of Fairview; two brothers: Bill Harris and wife Doris and Rex Harris and wife Ann, all of Fairview; sister-in-law, Mabel Darlene Wise and husband Edward of Hendersonville, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Jones, Rev. Roland Owenby, and Rev. HL Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Emmas Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Vince Owenby, Brian Harris, Dewayne Jones, Bobby Rathburn, Paul Harris, and Tim Harris. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
