ASHEVILLE James Thomas Earwood, Sr., 83, of 125 Wolfe Cove Road passed away Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the WNC Baptist Home following a short illness. A native of Swain County. He has resided in Buncombe County since 1945 and was a WWII Veteran, having served in the United States Army. He retired in 1985 from Norfolk Southern Railway following 43 years of service where he served as a Freight Conductor at the time of his retirement. Mr. Earwood was a son of the late Harlan William and Doskey Estelle Shuler Earwood and the husband of Beatrice Vivian McDonald Earwood who died April 12, 1995. He was also preceded in death by his son, Larry Douglas Earwood and brothers, Jack Harold Earwood and Emmett Eugene Earwood. Surviving are his sons, James Thomas Earwood, Jr. and wife, Ruth of Midlothian, VA and Kenneth Eugene Earwood and wife, Pat of Sugar Hill, GA; sister, Mary Earwood Rice of Asheville; brother, Edwin Cecil Earwood of Asheville; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Newbridge Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. Clark Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Lewis Memorial Park with John, Douglas, Gene, Bill and Harold Earwood, Kevin Rice, Phillip Campos, Andy Stine and Victor Caceres serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
