James Robert "Bud" Blackwell

March 21, 1936 — December 1, 2002

Asheville - James Robert Bud Blackwell, 66, of 162 Hazel Mill Road died Sunday, December 1, 2002 at his home following a period of declining health. A native of Brevard, he had resided in Buncombe County most of life, was a Retired Truck Driver and attended Open Door Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Blackwell was the son of the late James Edward Blackwell and Hattie Mae Teague Blackwell and also was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Mae Blackwell. Surviving are his companion of 38 years, Bertha Eloise Frady Blackwell; sisters, Aileen Stanley, Shirley Blackwell, Betty Jean Helton and Myrtle Lee Blackwell all of Asheville; 12 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Melton officiating. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
