Asheville ~ James R. Beck, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at his residence while surrounded by family.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Asa Lawrence Beck, Sr. and Opal Smathers Beck Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Walter J. Beck, Asa Lawrence “Larry” Beck, Jr., and Andy Beck.
Mr. Beck was a 1952 graduate of West Buncombe High School and a US Army and Navy Veteran. He worked most of his life in Real Estate Development and was a charter member of the Erwin Hills Lions Club and member of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce and Council of Independent Business Owners (CIBO). He was a lifelong member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen R. Beck; sons: Rodney L. Beck, and David Jonathan Beck and wife Becky Jones Beck; granddaughter, Lillian Myranda Beck; brother, Albert Beck; niece, Joy Beck Malone; and many extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, June 5, 2023, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Military funeral honors will be rendered by the N.C. National Guard Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 till 2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Mr. Beck’s caregiver, Janice Stephenson, for her help over the past couple years.
