CANDLER - JAMES MONROE SHOOK, 52, OF 5 PLEMMONS DRIVE DIED MONDAY, JANUARY 22, 2001 AT THE RESIDENCE FOLLOWING A PERIOD OF DECLINING HEALTH. A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF BUNCOMBE COUNTY. HE WAS A SELF EMPLOYED ROOFER AND A VETERAN OF THE U.S. ARMY. HE WAS A SON OF MAZEL HANEY SHOOK OF ASHEVILLE AND THE LATE WILLIAM SHOOK. SURVING IN ADDITION TO HIS MOTHER ARE HIS SPECIAL FRIEND AND FORMER WIFE, EVELYN MASSEY OF THE HOME; SON, KENNY SHOOK OF ASHEVILLE; DAUGHTER, DEBRA SHOOK OF ASHEVILLE; STEP DAUGHTER, LISA LUTHER OF CANDLER; STEP SONS, RICK ANDERSON, TIM ANDERSON, NATHAN RICE AND HOMER LUTHER ALL OF CANDLER AND TONY ANDERSON OF CLAYTON, N.C.; SISTER, CATHY GOETTGE OF LEICESTER; BROTHER, JOHN SHOOK OF ASHEVILLE AND A NUMBER OF GRANDCHILDREN. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD 3:30 P.M. WEDNESDAY IN THE CHAPEL OF ANDERS-RICE FUNERAL HOME WITH THE REV. ALF MILLER OFFICIATING. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS 7 TO 9 P.M.
