James Monroe "Jim" Markley Iii

June 8, 1914 — April 27, 2010

Arden James Monroe Jim Markley, III, 95, of 232 Rocky Mountain Way, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Greenville, SC, he was a graduate of Georgia Tech University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Mr. Markley retired from Eastern Airlines in 1977 as the Director of Aircraft Maintenance for the Central Division. He was a charter member of University Baptist Church in Coral Gables, FL, as well as a member of Crossroads Assembly of God in Asheville, where he served as an Elder and as a member of the Church Board. Serving the Lord his entire life was Jims honor and privilege. Mr. Markley was the son of the late James Monroe Markley, Jr. and Willa Heifner Markley. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Pierce Markley; and a sister, Sarah Katherine duBignon. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Jeannette Hopson Markley; daughter, Sandra Jean Villarreal (Nick) of Laredo, TX; son, James Monroe Markley, IV of Sebastian, FL; grandson, James N. Villarreal; and a large extended family of church members and friends. A celebration of Jims life will be held at 7 PM Friday at Crossroads Assembly of God, with Pastor J. Michael Brown, Pastor Wade Zachary, Pastor Bob Chuprevich, and Pastor Glynn Bachelor officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Crossroads Assembly of God General Fund, 20 South Bear Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28806. Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center is assisting the Markley family.
