Decatur, Alabama - James Ervin Rice, 68, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2003. A native of Madison County. He was a son of the late Frank and Robena Rice of Walnut and was also preceded in death by a sister, Anna Rice Hixon of Franklin, N.C. Mr. Rice was a 1954 graduate of Walnut High School and a 1970 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and served in the US Army at Fort Huachuca, AZ He was employed by the ChemStrand Corporation of Research Triangle Park in Durham, N.C. and with the Amoco division of Standard Oil of New Jersey in Decatur, AL. He was a member of Austinville First Baptist Church in Decatur where he served as a Deacon. He is survived by his wife, Hilda Lovett Rice; son, Glenn Rice and wife, Patricia; three grandchildren, Brandon, Marcus and Dustin James all of Decatur; three sisters, Eula Silver and Shelby Honeycutt both of Asheville and Frances Langford of Weaverville; two brothers, Frank Rice and Bruce Rice both of Weaverville. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur. Interment was at Mt. Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Mt. Hope, AL.
