James Cecil Hughes

Asheville - James Cecil Hughes, 73, of 11 Sweet Water Drive died Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Andrew Cecil and Mary Martha Cannon Hughes. Mr. Hughes retired from Lu Star in 2004, was a former Dairyman and self employed Truck Driver. He attended Happy Valley Baptist Church and was a former member of the U.S. Army Reserves. Surviving are his wife, Juanita H. Hughes of the home; sons, James Hughes and wife Susan of Burnsville, Michael Hughes and wife Brenda of Leicester and Phillip Hughes and wife Beverly of Asheville; sisters, Betty Williams, Martha Smart, Lee Reese, Emily Clark and Holly Morris all of Asheville and Barbara Sams of Alexander; brothers, Tommy Hughes and Theodore Hughes all of Asheville and George Hughes of Alexander; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Russell Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in Lewis Memorial Park with James, Michael, Phillip, and Mitchell Hughes and Donald and Allan Hollifield serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
