Asheville James Alvin Ledford, 80, of 1063 Riverside Drive passed away Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. He was a native and resident most of life of Buncombe County and a son of the late Lonnie DeVault Ledford and Mary Elizabeth Smith Nine. Mr. Ledford was formerly employed with the Rankin-Patterson and the Thrash Fuel Companies as a Truck Driver and a former member of Black Mountain F.W. Baptist Church in Barnardsville. Surviving are his daughter, Patricia Surrett of Clyde; former wife, Helen Cutie Ledford of Asheville; sisters, Grace Maynor of Weaverville and Bertha Justice and Effie Blankenship both of Asheville; brothers, Emory, Clyde and Ed Ledford all of Baltimore, MD and Dee Ledford of New Jersey; 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastors Nelson Ponder and Bill Ponder officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
