Jack Woody

December 6, 1920 — April 29, 2014

Asheville David Jackson Jack Woody, 93, of 105 Starnes Cove Road, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home. A native of Spring Creek, NC, he had resided in Asheville for the past 69 years. He retired in 1984 from Southern Bell Telephone Company after 43 years of service, where at the time of his retirement, was Telephone Lineman-Supervisor. He was a member of the Candler Lions Club, the Telephone Pioneer Club, served for many years as Democrat Precinct Chairman, was affiliated with Starnes Cove Baptist Church and was a WWII veteran, having served in both the US Army and US Navy. Mr. Woody was the son of the late Roy and Bertha Olivia Bridges Woody and was also preceded in death by a son, David Woody, two sisters and six brothers. Surviving are his wife whom he married February 7, 1945, Lucille Whitaker Woody of the home; daughters, Dianna McCain and husband James of Fairview, Jane Caldwell and husband John of Rutherfordton; son, Billy Woody and wife Evelyn of Candler; grandsons, Brad Caldwell and wife Christy, Brian Caldwell and wife Amy and Brett Caldwell; great grandchildren, Kinsley Caldwell and Kallan Caldwell; sisters, Pauline Brown of Asheville, Betty Feather (Byron) of Indiana, Bonnie Vires of Ohio and Martha Kiser (George) of Illinois and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Starnes Cove Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to: Starnes Cove Baptist Church, 149 Starnes Cove Rd, Asheville, NC 28806 or to Bethany United Methodist Church, 435 Brush Creek Rd, Fairview, NC 28730.
