Jack Ward Ponder

Asheville - Jack Ward Ponder, 74, of 249 Gorman Bridge Rd. died Monday, January 21, 2002 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired from the NC State Highway Department and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Ponder was the son of the late Kia and Zennie Shook Ponder. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Walker Ponder of the home; daughter, Kathie Davall and her companion Brian Sprinkle of Fletcher; grandson, Jamie Cole and wife Melody of Asheville; great grandchildren, Brittany and Theron Jack Cole; brother, Joyner Ponder of Charlotte. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Enoch Ball, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
