Asheville - Jack Farmer, 89, of 503 Biltmore Gardens Apartments, died Saturday, December 1, 2001 at St. Josephs Hospital following a short illness. A native of Jackson County, Kentucky. He has resided in Asheville most of his life and was a W W II veteran of the U.S. Army-Airforce. Mr. Farmer retired after 25 years of service from Longs Distributing Company and formerly employed with Southeastern Supply Company for 3 years. He was the son of the late Jessie and Martha Jane Parsons Farmer. Also preceding him in death are his sisters, Rebecca Case, Verna Eyler and Lucy Mullenhart all formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio, Grace Rice and Meda Farmer both formerly of Weaverville, Eva Hayes formerly of Clearwater, Florida and Mary Overman formerly of Van Nuys, California; brothers, Jim Farmer formerly of Arkansas, Robert Farmer formerly of Gray Hawk, Kentucky and Graham Farmer formerly of Lexington, Kentucky; niece, Linda Gordon formerly of Woodstock, Georgia and Weaverville. Surviving are nieces, Patricia Cathey of Weaverville, Doris Zimbelman of Clearwater, Florida, Antoinette Winkle and Zelda Tuthill both of Cincinnati, Ohio, Colleen Reffett of Eastern, Kentucky, Sue Isaacs of Gray Hawk, Kentucky, Shirley Hallabaugh of Columbia, S.C. and Donna Shockey of Dublin, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Watkins officiating. Graveside rites will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team at the W.N.C. State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to ones favorite charity.
