Irene Mcmanus Long

Lakeland, Florida - Irene Elkins McManus Long, 80, of 633 Edgewood Dr., formerly of 32 Hopedale Circle, Asheville, died Tuesday September 18, 2001 at her residence following a period of declining health. A native of Buncombe County and resident most of her life prior to moving to Lakeland in 1985. She had retired in 1985 from Square D and was a member of Emma Baptist Church in Asheville and Southside Baptist Church in Lakeland. Mrs. Long was also a member and past president of her Garden Club at Southside Baptist where she also was a member of Faith Sunday School Class. Mrs. Long was the daughter of the late Murphy Andrew and Sarah Mildred Foister Elkins and former wife of the late Luther Ellis McManus. She was also preceded in death by her son, William Ellis Bill McManus. Surviving are her husband, Antone G. Tony Long of the home; daughter, Nancy B. Clark of Weaverville; grandsons, Jeffery A. Hawk of Asheville and Bill McManus, Jr. of Daytona, Fl; sister, Lois B. Williams of Asheville. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Green Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Parker officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Saturday following the graveside rites will be at the home of Sue McManus, 36 Hopedale Circle, Asheville.
