Candler Hoyt Braxton Shook, 80, of 120 Young Drive, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired in 1993 following 37 years of service as a Lab Analyst with BASF, was a member of Good News Baptist Church and was a US Army veteran. Mr. Shook was the son of the late Hobart Perry Shook and Cora Elizabeth Rice Shook. Surviving are his wife whom he married October 22, 1971, Edna Louise Scruggs Shook of the home; children, Regina Messer (Gene) of Asheville, Christopher Reece (Melissa) of Londonderry, VT and Tonya Thomas (Aaron) of Wake Forest; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; sister, Wanda Thompson of Alexander and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, November 26, 2016 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Smith and Rev. Jacob Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park with Rev. David Scruggs officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
