Howard N. "Scat" Bowlin

Leicester Howard Nathaniel Scat Bowlin, 75, of 73 Dix Creek #2, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, November 24, 2007. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired from Bell South Telephone Company in 1986 with 37 years of service. Mr. Bowlin was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, and was the former President of the Executive Committee of the West Buncombe Fire Department for 17 years. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a loving husband and father, and worshipped his grandchildren. Mr. Bowlin was the son of the late Joseph N. and Bessie Rhymer Bowlin. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Grace Webb, and a brother, Joe Bowlin. Surviving are his wife, Alice Banks Bowlin, whom he married on March 7, 1953; sons: Mike Bowlin and wife Trudy Lance Bowlin and Tommy Bowlin and wife Judy Patton Bowlin, all of Leicester; grandchildren: Carla, Matt, Dusty, Tyler, and Corey; and brother, Robert W. Bowlin and wife Clesta of Leicester. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Higgins and Rev. Charles Surrett officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery with honors conducted by the West Buncombe Fire Department. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
