Howard Cecil "Bill" Wood Sr.

Asheville - Howard Cecil Bill Wood, Sr., 82, of 82 Pisgah View Road, Lot #21 died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at the Magnolia Health Care Center following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County he retired from American Enka Corp. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was the son of the late Garfield Wood, Sr. and Lillie Mae Dillingham Wood and was preceeded in death by his wife, Georgia Ann Wood. Surviving are his wife, Dessie Wood of the home; son, Howard Cecil Wood, Jr. of Asheville; daughter, Georgia Ann Lewis of Arden; brother, Garfield Wood of Skyland; step daughters, Emma and Jeri Meadows both of Asheville and Carrie Black of Leicester; grandchildren, Timothy Edward Lewis, Khrista Bryson and Jason Wood; 3 step grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
