ASHEVILLE - HORACE LEE LANNING, 85, OF 76 W. OAKVIEW RD. DIED SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 2001 AT ST. JOSEPHS HOSPITAL. A NATIVE OF HENDERSON COUNTY, HE HAD LIVED IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY FOR 62 YEARS. HE WAS A MEMBER OF WEST ASHEVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH, A VETERAN OF THE US ARMY, SERVING DURING WW II, AND HE WAS AN AVID MEMBER AND PAST PRESIDENT OF THE HOLIDAY RAMBLERS R.V. CLUB. A BELOVED HUSBAND, FATHER AND GRANDFATHER, HE WAS THE SON OF THE LATE PLATO LEE AND NELLIE HENDERSON LANNING. SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE, ELVA ALEXANDER LANNING OF THE HOME; DAUGHTERS, JUDY CATHCART OF ENKA, AND DORIS DOTSY PENLAND AND HUSBAND GARY PETE OF ENKA; SISTER, COLLEEN LEWIS AND HUSBAND TOM OF HENDERSONVILLE: BROTHER, VIRGIL LANNING OF HENDERSONVILLE; GRANDCHILDREN, VICKI FRANK AND HUSBAND TERRY, GREG CATHCART AND WIFE ANGELA P., STEPHEN T. CATHCART AND WIFE ANGELA A., KRISTA PENLAND, KEVIN PENLAND, AND KAREN PENLAND; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, PATRICK FRANK, LINDSEY FRANK, MIRANDA CATHCART, CODY CATHCART, AND TYLER FOSTER. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 2:30 PM MONDAY IN THE ANDERS-RICE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL WITH REV. KEN LEWIS, REV. DAVID TUCKER, AND DR. JOHN T. TILLER OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN FOREST LAWN MEMORIAL PARK. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS FROM 7 UNTIL 9 PM SUNDAY AT THE FUNERAL HOME.
