Hobart "J.R." Penland, Jr.

Candler - Hobart J.R. Penland, Jr, 71, of 26 Paradise Ridge Road, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Knoxville, TN, he grew up and was a resident for most of his life in Candler. He was formerly employed for many years with Bill Teague at Carolinas Auto Mart, was a member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church, attended Enka High School and was a US Army veteran during the Korean War. Mr. Penland was the son of the late Hobart Penland, Sr. and Beattie Farmer Penland and was also preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Jackson. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Julia Mielke Penland of the home; children, Michael D. Penland of Candler, Angie Jones and husband Dustin of Canton and Deniece Hensley of Black Mountain; grandchildren, Julia, E.J., Gavin, Isaac, Zachary, Bethany, Riley and Dylan and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Saturday, September 26, 2015 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Rice and Rev. Jennings Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
