Herbert "Monk" Fore

Asheville - Herbert Harold Monk Fore, 72, died Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at St. Josephs Hospital. A life long resident of Buncombe County, he was a member of Bee Tree Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. He was a veteran of the US Army. Mr. Fore was the son of the late James H. and Gertrude Whitaker Fore. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Herbert, Jr., and 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Surviving are his wife, Ophelia Carland Fore of the home; step daughter, Annette Terrell and husband Russell of Asheville; step son, Lyle Prestridge and wife Teri of Asheville; sisters, Louise Fore, Juanita Lindsey and Gloria Barnette all of Asheville, and Rachel Jones of Fairview; brother, Herman Fore of Sheffield, AL; 4 step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Larry Carver, Jimmy Page, and A.W. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.
