Henry E. "Smokey" Robinson

October 9, 1917 — April 7, 2003

Candler - Henry Ennis Smokey Robinson, 85, of 1 Asbury Place died Monday, April 7, 2003 at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. A native of Haywood County. He had resided in Buncombe County for the past 26 1/2 years. He retired in 1998 following 23 years of service with Drexel Heritage Furnishings where he was a Sample Maker. He was a member of Hazelwood First Baptist Church and was a WW I I veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Robinson was the son of the late James Ernest and Winnie E. Arrington Robinson and was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Lorena Broom Robinson and by his eight brothers. Surviving are his wife, Lucille Allman Robinson of the home; son, Denver Robinson and wife, Bonnie of Waynesville; daughters, Linda Ledbetter and husband, Eddie of Candler and Jackie Kent and husband, Spencer of Waynesville; step daughter, Beverly Brown Wright and husband, Pat of Greensboro; six grandchildren, two step grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesville with the Rev. Chris Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home, Waynesville and at all other times Mr. Robinson will be at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, Asheville.
