Asheville - Helen Marie Sloop Williams, 76, of 184 Elk Mountain Road, died Monday September 2, 2002 at her residence following a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was former co-owner and secretary of Williams Feed Store and from 1942 to 1946 worked as a keypunch operator with Postal Accounts. She was a member of Crossroads Assembly of God where she was a Sunday School teacher and was active with many leadership functions within the church. Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Aubrey Lawrence and Elizabeth Ann Jones Sloop. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Lillian Shook and Mabel Reed and brothers, Charles and Harry Sloop. Surviving are her husband, Roger Williams, Jr. of the home; daughter, Brenda Williams Harper and husband, Kenneth G. Harper of Asheville; granddaughters, Kimberly Jones and husband, Clay and Tracie Dowd and husband, Kevin all of Asheville. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Crossroads Assembly of God with the Revs. Mike Brown, Wade Zachary and Bob Chuprevich officiating. Burial will be in Elk Mountain Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harold Farrell, Jim Stiles, A.D. McDuffie, George Allen, Walter Bradshaw, Mark Atkinson, Tommy Greene and Jim Markley. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home and at other times will be at the resident.
