Darby, Montana - Helen Marquette Sams Candler, 82, of 7302 West Fork Road died Saturday, January 26, 2002 at the Valley View Estates Nursing Home in Hamilton, Montana following a period of declining health. A native and resident of Buncombe County she had moved to Darby in 1994. She retired as a sales clerk from K-Mart in Skyland and was a daughter to the late Zeb and Lucy Sams and the wife of George Alexander Candler who died in 1972. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Martin, Jack and Zeb Sams and sister, Mary Roberts. Surviving are her daughters, Claire C. Corn with whom she made her home and Linda Wischmeyer of Shelbyville, Indiana; son, Paul T. Candler of Asheville; brothers, Johnny Sams of Gastonia, Clayton Sams and Steve Sams both of Seneca, S.C.; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Roberts Memorial Park in Skyland with the Rev. Roger Reardon officiating. The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
