ASHEVILLE - HELEN KATHERINE CURTIS DUNCAN, 81, OF 7 MELTON DRIVE DIED SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2001 AT THE MOUNTAIN AREA HOSPICE SOLACE CENTER. A NATIVE OF GIBSONVILLE. MRS. DUNCAN HAS RESIDED IN ASHEVILLE SINCE MAY 5, 1945. SHE WAS A HOMEMAKER, FORMER CHURCH SCHOOL TEACHER AT ST. MARKS LUTHERAN CHURCH FOR MANY YEARS WHERE SHE IS A MEMBER AND ATTENDED BEAVERLY HILLS BAPTIST SINCE 1974. SHE WAS VERY ACTIVE IN ALL SCHOOL ACTIVITIES INCLUDING P.T.A. HERE IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY. SHE WAS A DAUGHTER OF THE LATE CHARLES AND LOUISE WAYNE CURTIS AND WAS ALSO PRECEDED IN DEATH BY BROTHERS, HOWARD CURTIS, FINLEY CURTIS AND PAUL CURTIS ALL FORMERLY OF GIBSONVILLE AND GEORGE CURTIS FORMERLY OF GRAHAM. SURVIVING ARE HER HUSBAND, JAMES CECIL DUNCAN OF THE HOME, DAUGHTER, SHARON BALDWIN OF ARDEN; GRANSONS, JAMES SCOTT BALDWIN AND WILLIAM CARROLL BALDWIN, II BOTH OF ASHEVILLE; TWIN GREAT GRANDSONS, MATTHEW SCOTT AND JAMES TYLER BALDWIN BOTH OF ASHEVILLE; SPECIAL FRIEND, BILL BALDWIN OF FAIRVIEW; SISTERS, WILLIE BARKHURST OF PHOENIX, ARIZONA, MARY BELL OF MT. AIRY AND EDNA POOLE OF BURLINGTON; BROTHERS, HOWELL AND ED CURTIS BOTH OF BURLINGTON. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD 11 A.M. TUESDAY AT ST. MARKS LUTHERAN CHURCH WITH THE REV. DAVID L. MARTIN OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN THE WESTERN CAROLINA STATE VETERANS CEMETERY. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS ONE HOUR PRIOR TO SERVICES TUESDAY AT THE CHURCH AND AT OTHER TIMES WILL BE AT THE RESIDENCE.
