Asheville - Helen Irene Gentry Hollar, 73, of 40 Woodhill Dr. died Saturday, January 19, 2002 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a member of Westview Baptist Church in Weaverville where she was a long time Sunday School Teacher and Church Secretary. She attended Words of Life Tabernacle in Arden and she was retried from Memorial Mission Hospital as a switchboard operator with 30 years of service. Mrs. Hollar was the daughter of the late Erskine Luther and Irene Lance Gentry. She was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Alice Waldrop, Virgie Gentry, and Maudie Gentry. Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Tony Smith Hollar of the home; daughters, Jane Barnett of Atlanta, GA, Joan Gosnell and husband David and Jean Lankford and husband David all of Asheville; sisters, Mildred Barnwell, Betty Brown, Pearl Thomas, Jeanette Grooms, Edith Franklin, and Mary Black all of Buncombe County; brothers, Tate, David, and John Gentry all of Buncombe County; grandchildren, Chris Barnett, Jonathyn Robinson, Kim Crain, and Brian Lankford; 1 great grandson, Jesse Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Dean Metcalf, Tim Lee, and Carl Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Roy Waldrop serving as honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour before the services.
