Helen "Granny" Ball

Asheville Mary Helen Kidd Granny Ball, 87, passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Mrs. Ball was born in Knoxville, TN on May 4, 1924 and daughter of the late Samuel and Mabel Porter Kidd. She moved to Asheville in 1936 where she met her husband, James Everett Ball in 1939. They were lovingly married for 69 years. She loved being outdoors, caring for her family and helping her husband at his service station. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul and Sherman Kidd, one sister, Mayme Watts and son-in-law, Sandy Jackson. Surviving are her husband, James Everett Ball of the home; son, James Richard (Dickie) Ball and wife Lupe of Milwaukee; daughter, JoAnn Jackson of Asheville; brother, Bob Kidd of Candler; 5 grandchildren, Michael and Steven Jackson of Asheville, Ricky, Jennifer and Christina Ball of Milwaukee; 8 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and one on the way. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor Enoch Ball, Jr. and Bro. Thom Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times, the family will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to: CarePartners Hospice, P.O.
