Helen Ballard

Asheville Helen King Ballard, 95, of Hazelnut Drive, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012 at her home. A native and resident of most of her life of Buncombe County, Mrs. Ballard retired in 1984 from Roses Department Store, and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Mrs. Ballard was the daughter of the late Fred Filmore and Lillie Cumy Matthews King. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Nundus Willie Crisp; daughter, Willa Carolene Crisp; brother, Jack King; and sisters: Pearl Baldwin and Madge Davis. Surviving are her husband, Charles Everett Ballard, of the home; children: Brenda McCrory and Deborah Lynne Shelton, both of Asheville, and Phillip Bruce Crisp of Alexander; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 1 great, great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Doug Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
