Hazel Penland

Enka - Hazel Cassada Penland, 77, of Enka, stepped into her Heavenly home Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Silver Bluff Nursing Center. A native of Transylvania County, Ms. Penland had resided in Buncombe County for most of her life. She retired as a Supervisor with Daniels Graphics following 38 years of service, and was a member of Highland Baptist Church. Ms. Penland loved being outdoors in her garden, quilting, and nature. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her world. She was a good steward over what the Lord had blessed her with. Ms. Penland was the daughter of the late Winston and Lorena McCall Cassada. She was also preceded in death by an infant great-grandson, Cale Lane Shope; and brother, Garland Cassada. Surviving are her children: Lonnie Fox and wife Pat, Vanessa Sluder and husband Rev. Randy Sluder, Camelia Fox, Sonya Dobson and fianc Rusty Wysong, Tina Cook and husband Ron, and Vera Sparks; brother, Donald Cassada and wife Betty; sisters: Wanda Cassada Robinson and husband Jerry and Vivian Cassada Mitchell; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Randy Sluder, Rev. Truman Revis, and Rev. Lonnie Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home. The family would like to express their gratitude to all of Ms. Penlands caregivers for their loving care during her time of declining health.
