Hazel "Little Bit" Koontz

Asheville Hazel Mayes McCarter Koontz Little Bit, 87, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Madison Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Clover, SC, she had resided in Asheville since 1965. She retired in the late 90s from Blue Ridge Mental Health where she served as Executive Secretary. Mrs. Koontz was the daughter of the late Doctor Darwin McCarter and Beatrice Grayson McCarter and wife of Thomas Gale Koontz who died in 1980. Surviving are her son, Thomas Gale Koontz, Jr. of Weaverville; granddaughters, Ashley Koontz Grant and husband Matthew of Swannanoa and Heather Koontz Israel and husband Alan of Candler; great grandson, Skyler Grant; brother, Charlie McCarter of Gastonia and step mother, Oneida McCarter of York, SC. Graveside services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Alan Gragg officiating.
